On the afternoon of September 21, President
Hong Gang vividly made a speech for the 2014 freshmen on the topic of “If I
were admitted by ZISU, I would….” by introducing the history and development of
ZISU and the essence of the motto of our university.

In order to help the students to get to
know and have a thorough understanding of ZISU as soon as possible, as well as
to adapt themselves to the university life in a better way, Hong Gang introduced
in details the changing process of nearly sixty years’ history of our
university’s development. Hong Gang asked the 2014 freshmen to quickly adapt
themselves to the university life, to understand all the teachers and
conditions that can be used; to adapt themselves to the university teaching
activities as soon as possible, to learn how to learn, to explore the suitable
learning method of one’s own; to make reasonable arrangements for their
university time, to well balance the relationship between their study and
hobbies; to skillfully handle the interpersonal relationships, and to
harmoniously get along well with their schoolmates.
“Vigorously
carry forward the spirit of the university motto, we must take the motto for
the lead, nourish and cherish the conservation of the core values of
socialism.” Hong Gang explains in detail the denotation and the connotation of
our university motto of “Virtue, Perseverance, Erudition and Practicality”. He
thinks, the cultural spirit of our university motto is closely linked with the
mission and culture of our university, which embodies the core mission of
university education and the fundamental task of moral education. The common
value pursuit of our Zisuers is highly embodied in our university motto of
“Virtue, Perseverance, Erudition and Practicality”, in which our university’s
educational ideas and administration philosophy have been highly condensed. By
“Virtue we mean our students should develop good study habits, living habits
and moral behaviors; by “Perseverance” we stress the need to have a great aim,
and then stand on solid grounds to achieve the long-term goal; by “Erudition”
we request our students to lay a solid foundation of learning a foreign
language well to better understand its national customs and cultures; by
“Practicality” we ask our students to foster their practical abilities and to
put theory into practice skillfully.
In the teaching process, Hong Gang
interacted with the students by questions and answers. The students raised such
questions as the new campus construction, the use of university computer rooms,
the employment rate of our graduates and the curriculum of elective courses.
Hong Gang patiently answered them respectively.
Finally, Hong Gang hopes that all our 2014
freshmen can have a good time in ZISU, and that the Perseverance Forum will
become the quality brand of the campus culture construction with the concern
and support of all the teachers and students and members of the public.
