Party Secretary Yao Chengrong Lectured at
the Perseverance Forum
On the morning of September 21, Party Secretary Yao
Chengrong gave a lecture at the Perseverance Forum in our Dreamers’ Auditorium,
which was organized and hosted by our students. The theme of his lecture is
“Chasing the Dream from the 'New' Start”, which was delivered for the
2014 freshmen. All the teachers and students present in the auditorium
cheerfully applauded for this brilliant and witty lecture.

At the start of the lecture, Yao Chengrong
said fondly, “Dream is a kind of ambition, a kind of vision, a kind of pursuit,
and a kind of power. The youth with dream is brilliant.” There are two reasons
why the auditorium is named as “Dreamers Auditorium”. One is that to cultivate
“dreamers” for our country is the lofty and sacred mission of Chinese
universities. To realize our China Dream of great rejuvenation of the Chinese
nation is to rely on talents and education in the final analysis. The second
one is that each ZISU student should also live a happy four-year campus life in
the pursuit of a dream, which is the value pursuit of ZISU’s education. Life
will have different dreams in different stages. For many high school students,
being admitted to a college or university is their dream; in the college or
university, being a talent has become their new dream. The university stage is
a very important period of a person’s life, and largely determines an
individual's future development.
Our 2014 freshmen are about to open the
first page of their university life. How to realize the dream of the future
talent is the most important thing to be considered for each ZISU freshman. Yao
Chengrong holds the view that the first urgent thing for chasing the dream of
becoming a talented person is to learn how to behave and study well the
important required course of how to cultivate one's morality and become a whole
person. The cultivation of morality and a whole person is the fundamental task
of education because morality education should be prior to nurturing people. A
man cannot be a respectable person without integrity, for morality self-cultivation
is the tact work of one’s career. Whether a person can achieve the dream of
success and graduate as scheduled depends not only on their professional
knowledge and ability, but also on their noble moral qualities and moral
cultivation. The second one is that morality self-cultivation starts from the
solid and strong base. Concentrated practice focuses on the three fine
qualities such as responsibility, integrity and etiquette. First of all, have a
strong sense of responsibility! If you have no sense of responsibility, you
dare not to take your responsibility, which is one of the decisive factors for
your future. College students are in the golden age of learning and should work
hard and make our China's Dream come true, taking this as a kind of
responsibility. While studying hard, we should care about our country, our
people, and the world, and have the emotion of “Family-Country” of serving our
motherland and the people, and do our duty as required in the slogan “Every man
alive has a duty to his country”. Secondly, integrity. Integrity is the base of
the leader and an upright man. "A man cannot be a reliable person without
integrity". Lack of integrity is a serious problem in today's economic
and social development. College students of a new generation will lead to keep
the integrity of the social atmosphere, to foster the credit consciousness and
the integrity of learning. Last but not least, etiquette. “If we don't learn
etiquette, we cannot stand with integrity.” Etiquette refers to meet the
requirements of the moral code of conduct; Etiquette also includes rituals and
ceremonies. There will be quite a few our students to conduct international
exchanges and cooperation, which requires them to be familiar with not only
traditional Chinese basic etiquette, but also foreign etiquette.
The third one is that temper character
starts from the self-discipline of daily life. "A gentleman with the moral
line shows a trip." One’s fine qualities and moral integrity are judged by
not only his or her words but also his deeds. Temper character is to achieve
the unity of knowledge and action, starting from the trivial details; You are
to exercise the power of concentration, stand the loneliness, and withstand the
temptation.
Finally, Yao Chengrong encouraged the
freshmen by saying that they were born in prosperous time, and lucky enough to
catch up with the history to realize China's dream of a golden age. Great era
has created a golden opportunity for the young generation of flying ideal and
chasing their dream. “The longest journey begins with a single step.” He hopes
that our students should have lofty ideals, and put them into action from now
on. When graduating from university, they can realize their dream of talent,
and become a man of noble temperament and elegant character, as well as a
useful talent of homeland construction and a man of tremendous promise. During
the process of the lecture, Yao Chengrong and students present conducted a
relaxed and pleasant interaction. Representatives of the freshmen asked such
question as how to meet the needs of international talents in the professional
study and how to foster their own abilities and feelings about their dreams,
etc. Yao Chengrong patiently answered these questions. His satisfactory answers
have won the students’ hearty cheers and applause.
