Anexciting cultural event titled “Afternoon in Brazil: A Journey Through Culture and Music” took place in Lecture Hall C116 of Wangyuan BuildingatZISU on April 24.
Zhang Liang and Yao Min, Vice Presidents and Members of the Party Committee, attended the event andmadetheir remarks. Daniel Melo, President of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil, addressed the audience online. Other attendees included Claudio Roja, former Ambassador of Chile and now foreign associate professor at ZISU, Cultural Consul Paulo Henrique and Deputy Media Consul Marília Cristina from the Brazilian Consulate General in Shanghai, and special guest Alexandre Lunsqui, a Brazilian composer and professor at the State University of São Paulo. The Capoeira Mandinga Hangzhou offered a special performance. More than 200 faculty and students participated in the event.

In his remarks, Zhang extended his warm welcome and gratitude to the distinguished guests. He used the word "Wonderful" to commend the significance and value of the event, stating that it has built a bridge for cultural exchange between China and Brazil for young people at ZISU and helped them gain a deeper understanding of Brazilian culture. He also expressed his anticipation for the upcoming visit to Brazil in August, hoping to further explore the possibilities for educational and cultural cooperation between ZISU and Brazil.

Yao noted that music and culture served as a universal language across nations. ZISU has always held the concept of "openness, inclusiveness, and mutual learning" to promote cultural exchange. He expressed the hope that through this event, ZISU youth would continue to broaden their international vision and demonstrate their youth leadership in promoting China-Brazil cross-cultural exchange.

Henrique introduced the diversity of cultures and ethnic groups, and the impact of music on society, regions, and civilizational patterns. He encouraged young students to maintain a spirit of exploration in life and try to find meaning in their lives.


During the event, QiNanfrom the School of Arts gave a lecture titled "Brazilian Music: An Intercultural Journey from Northeast to the World." She introduced Brazilian culture and history while giving piano performances, immersing the audience in Brazilian music and culture. TeacherBde-dbangfrom the School of Arts and Lunsqui presented the world premiere of five works from the "Histos" series together,offeringan audio-visual feast to the audience.
International student Denzel and Xia Yijia, a junior Portuguese major, also shared their fascinating stories of cultural exchange between Chinese and Brazilian students.
